Running To Lose Weight – What You Need To Do

Because of all the new gimmicks and machines being released every year it seems rather old fashioned to say you should run to lose weight. But as many people find out, this very simple yet intense exercise is a wonderful way of not only losing weight but also getting physically fitter. You can do running nearly anywhere and you can do it all your life, as there are people who do it who stay fit enough into their sixties and beyond who keep doing it.

Running, if you are serious about trying this method of weight loss, should begin with choosing the right clothing and gear. Your running shoes are the most important piece of equipment you need for running. You might have some around your house, and if you don't, you'll need to get some new ones. Once you have your running shoes, you will be better off because it will provide support that would otherwise not be there with regular footwear. Your back and knee joints need the support that you are athletic shoes will provide, however, your feet will get the most help. Most of the time, you can get athletic shoes from your favorite brand, however this is not always the case.

When you start to run, and you feel that you need a break, by all means stop before something bad happens. When you're running, and you don't want to stop, you should walk for a little while until you feel well enough to run again. Walking while you are running is not a sign of weakness, especially as you are learning to build your endurance. Walking is totally acceptable, unless of course you are training for the Olympics. If your goal is fitness and weight loss, there's nothing wrong with alternating between running and walking. By walking, and running, you will gradually build endurance by not stopping in the midst of your run which could actually halt your progress in losing weight.

One of the best things that you can do to work out without injury is to warm up before doing it. People that advise you to stretch before you run are very wise; it is important to do so because running is very strenuous. To avoid possible injuries, you must stretch before you run to properly prepare your muscles. Once you've done your stretching, you should consider the first part of your run a warm-up. Begin by walking or jogging slowly and build up your pace. The best way to end your run is to jog slowly to a stop so that your muscles are not strained in any way. Doing this helps your muscles, in a gradual way, return back to normal after operating at peak levels. There's nothing complicated about running to lose weight, as it's one of the simplest activities of all. Running inside of the gym, on the treadmill, was not part of our reality just 20 years ago. Running is definitely addicting, and when you see positive results, and feel better, you may not want to ever give it up.
